Em alguns locais da Africa do Sul até é relativamente habitual nevar. Têm sempre alguns episódios todos os Invernos.

Introduction

A cold front reached the western parts of the Western Cape during early hours of Saturday, 19th of May 2007. Extreme weather ranging from hot, dry and windy conditions were experienced over the eastern half of the country ahead of the system. While heavy rains, gale force winds, rough seas and very cold conditions were experienced over the south-western parts of the country behind the system.

A secondary front made landfall on Sunday, 20th of May. This resulted in the worsening of conditions over the western and southern parts of the country. The second front reached the north-eastern provinces during late Sunday with very cold conditions setting in during Monday.

Severe weather advisories were issued as early as Wednesday, 16th May for heavy rainfall (50mm+ over 24 hours), very cold conditions (expected maximum temperatures equal or below 12°C), snowfalls, gale force winds(+65km/h), very rough seas (5m+) and conditions favourable for runaway fires.

Cold snap brings 54 new records

Johannesburgo registró mínimas de -3º , Kimberley, -4º. A próxima noite se prevén temperaturas frías, até -6º em Bloemfoentein.
