neve nao!!!!!granizo notava-se perfeitamente pelas imagens

Pelas imagens na TV também me pareceu granizo pelo menos numa ocasião, noutras parecia neve, mas também não percebemos que tipo de edição fizeram das imagens, provavelmente uma misturada de diferentes situações.

Neste caso é possível que além das trovoadas e granizo numas regiões também possa ter havido neve noutras tal a diferença de temperaturas que existe por lá aos 850hPa com calor no NW e frio no SE

Hail-stones as big as golf balls gave the mid-Canterbury town of Ashburton a pummelling late on Monday.

The storm smashed a path through Ashburton in a matter of minutes.

Pock marked bonnets at the local car yard will be a bonanza for panel beaters.

Car yard owner Peter Etheridge has lived in Ashburton all his life and never seen the like.

"All of a sudden we heard rumble on the roof, it started with golf balls and all sorts ... coming through the roof at tremendous speed," he says.

Huge stones smashed skylights and flooded streets and businesses.

The fire service scrambled to everything from car crashes to roof fires.

And there's a massive clean-up ahead with orchardists saying that crops have been decimated and next years raspberry canes' are also damaged.

"This is the worst we've ever seen, we're buggered. We might salvage some raspberries but the pears are stuffed," says one orchardist.

The bruising black clouds have currently swept northwards to Christchurch.
