Vejam a luz brilhante do "lado esquerdo" do sol...

http://www.lmsal.com/solarsoft/latest_events/

"Comet McNaught C/2006P1 January 9, 2007, Sighting in Manassas, VA
This is absolutely amazing!!! I just saw it in broad daylight at 10:30 am EST.
It must be exceedingly bright, and it is huge.
The nucleus appears to be about the size of the Sun disk.
To see it, use a roof line to block out the Sun.
It is about a hand span above the Sun (in the am), and a little to the left."

The image shows the expected track of the comet through SOHO's coronagraph LASCO C3. The comet will appear in the field of view of C3 at around 10:00 UT (05:00 EDT) on January 12th (a few hours before perihelion) in the upper-left of the images and travel almost vertically down, exiting C3's field of view in the lower left at roughly 03:00UT on January 16th.

Recent estimates of the comet's maximal brightness have ranged widely from magnitude +2.1 (about as bright as Polaris, the North Star) to a super-bright -8.8 (about 40 times brighter than Venus)! The lower the magnitude number, the brighter the object. The brightest stars in the sky are categorized as zero or first magnitude. Negative magnitudes are reserved for the most brilliant objects: the brightest star is Sirius (-1.4); the full Moon is -12.7; the Sun is -26.7.

Current estimates put comet McNaught at magnitude 0 to -1, and it is still brightening. It could be -2 or -3 by the time it reaches LASCO's field of view. This means it will be brighter than comet NEAT or comet 96P/Machholz. In other words, this could be the brightest and most spectacular comet that SOHO has ever seen!

Hoje já vi o bicho, em Sintra, mas não tinha a máquina comigo....imperdoável.
Este fim de semana não escapa ;)

Entretanto...

"We might loose power here in Seattle--a snowstorm with heavy-laden trees and power lines. If I'm down here I need to request that you save the C3 images during the comet passage on SOHO. Your own personal archive is a good idea because of this historical event. Some are beginning to think that a comet this large might even be called a rogue planet!"

Haverá alguma razão "obscura" acerca deste cometa, pois não vejo nenhuma notícia na comunicação social acerca do cometa McNaught? É, no mínimo, estranho.

"On Jan 14th, it hits perillion--and will be between the sun and the earth. If the sun reacts in a fasion similar to comet neat of Feb 18, 2003--activity of the sun will be high.
This comes just before or during an Earth Sun Mars Pluto Galactic Center alignment on the 15th, and and Earth, Sun, Venus, Neptune alignment on the 18th. Maybe nothing will happen--or it could be quite "spectacular."
Will the comet hit earth? Most likely not, although we may see some "debris." What always interests me about comets is that the large ones are ususally discovered by amatuers--which I find "interesting."
As far as I know, McNaught is a blue comet. (it is not red as some claim--all photos taken of things near sunrise/sunset get a reddish tint.)

Didn't the Sun send a big Solar Flare towards Neat when it passed the Sun last time ?
If this happens with the McNaught Comet, Earth could be in the firing line.
Plus if you take into account the 'Electrical Universe Theory'. And that Comet's tails point away from the Sun as they whip around it.

The Earth will be in the 'Firing Line' of the tail as well. Which I understand to be energy coming IN towards the Sun from the Solar System's overall charged 'electrical energy'. (that is why the Comet's tails always point away from the Sun as the Comets do their rounds)"

Continuamos num "blackout" informativo por parte dos jornais tugas (parece que só a RTP2 falou nisto ontem no Telejornal...que pouca gente vê)
